Jakarta Earthquake on 12-oct 2007, tremors in singapore
TREMORS were felt in many parts of Singapore and scores of office workers fled from high-rise buildings soon after a powerful quake and at least two aftershocks hit Indonesia, and Jakarta issued a second tsunami alert.
Indonesia had earlier lifted the tsunami alert, but re-issued a fresh alert after a 6.6-magnitude aftershock struck off the west coast of Sumatra following a massive quake hours earlier, the meteorology agency said.
The earlier quakes triggered a tsunami in the town of Padang and warnings for much of the Indian Ocean region, meteorological officials said.
The first undersea earthquake, which hit at 6.10pm (7.10pm Singapore time), struck some 100km south-west of the city of Bengkulu, the US Geological Survey said.
The US Geological Survey initially said on its website there was a quake measuring 8.0, and then a short time later said there was a quake measuring 7.9 at slightly different location.
Tremors felt at many parts of singapore, example : Toa Payoh, Punggol, Sengkang, Marine Parade, Seranggoon, etc.
