Release Date : 9 August 2007
The Seventh Month. The only month in the Chinese lunar Calendar when the Gates of Hades are thrown open, and ghosts, spirits and all departed souls make their annual pilgrimage back into the land of the living. In the seventh month, Chinese folks in places like Malaysia, Taiwan and Hong Kong burn incense and joss sticks, conduct prayers and make offerings to the returning dead. In Singapore, however, they take the business of placating and entertaining the spirits one step further. They have "getai" (song stage), makeshift concerts which pop up all over the island. Each year, more than 500 of these concerts take place during the Hungry Ghosts Month. Entertainers lined up include comedians, magicians, opera performers and singers with garish costumes and even more elaborate dance choreography. Royston Tan's new movie 881 unfolds against this unique cultural backdrop in Singapore. It is the story of two childhood friends who grew up mesmerised by the glitter and glamour of getai. They are The Papaya Sisters, two of the showiest performers on the circuit because the "song stage" with all its pomp and pageantry is a respite from the emptiness and dreariness of their own lives. 881 will mark yet another breakthrough for Royston, whose first feature film 15 is a visceral and gritty look at teenage delinquents. His second film 4.30 - about a latchkey kid and his Korean tenant - surprised audiences with its pared down, meditative and almost lyrical story-telling. This new film is a musical, with glitzy costumes and lavish choreography. The actors often break into song to express their emotions. All the numbers in the movie are from the treasure trove of the late Chen Jin lang, a Singapore getai songwriting legend who died in August 2006. A cross between Dancer In the Dark and Moulin Rouge, 881 will also feature documentary-style (ie "live") footage which captures the fever and excitement of actual getai performances.

After getting our movie tickets, we went to food court to makan, i ate malay rice together with jas. And just after eating, haokai walks in.. And almost time for our movie. We went to get popcorns and drinks and head in. First time its a WOah! to me cuz quite number of elderly and it's a good sign u know.. elderly should spend more time walking out of their house, breath in fresh air, talk to their partners and especially watching quite a funny and touching movie, laugh together, etc. In conclusion, this movie is a success! ^_^
I enjoy the movie very much. :))
After our movie, we went to coffee bean to chill~ I ordered my as usual Utimate Ice blended but was pretty disppointed because it's not as nice. Hope it's just a mistake for that day. But we still continue to have fun~ lots of picture taken that night~ and it tells you all. =))
ahhh~ So Kong bu... 7th mth wor : p
After chilling... we head to jas's house to double chill~ We bought 2 bottles of green tea, 1 mag from jas and 1 packet of maggie mee. haha! (maggie mee is for the guys). That night, the guys should be honor to have my cooking of maggie mee lol. And sun bian for jas's dad too. Therefore, not long after, it's party game time! We brought out our haven't finish chivas :x (opps. yvonne don't worry next time i will contribute one :)). And we play a game intro by hock cuz we 3 never play b4...
It is like this. Poker cards, after shuffle we go by rotation who to start first. If example: I took any number from A - 5 (black), I DRINK (mix chivas with green tea for that night). Any number from A-5 (red), I can call anyone u pointed out to DRINK. If number 6, it's rythum (or anything u can set, it's not fix). If number 7, i can keep the card for toilet break! if i don't get the card, no toilet break at all and no resetting after many games u play. :(( If number 8, it is question card, i will need to touch the card and ask the person i want, and if the person reply, He/She have to DRINK, in order not to DRINK, he/she have to touch the card without replying. If number 9, means action card, i can keep the card and any point of time once i touch the card i can do a obvious action and if the last person to do the action will have to DRINK (always i kena! sob~!!!) If number 10, it's a favourite rule card! haha. You can set any rule you like example, no english allow throughout but it is resettable after each game. For that night card J and Q, we never set anything so once we get the card it's safe. If card K, 1st 3 picks of the card, we can add chivas or green tea or choose not to add. and the last pick of K, Suay! U have to DRINK all!!! hohohohoho~ Fun right?? YES! it's fun!!! :p
Therefore, that night is crazy~ we took photos after the game too! hahA~ and 9 plus then reach home~ woooo~ Thanks guys for the night! ^_^
When i'm back home, i waited for my mama to wake up and accompany her to market and take breakfast~ :) I was like a zombie in the market despite me haven't sleep for the whole night~ haha! Finally got home, run around as i'm full and later about 1 or 2 pm, sleep my whole day through till sunday morning wake up to work. LOL! (Of course i did wake up in between to walk about and sms pple. keke!)
*That's all guys, wait for more updates on next week gatherings~ Seeyaa!*
